The Pledge of Aqabah, the two significant events in the early history of Islam that occurred in the 12th and 13th years of Prophet Muhammad’s (S) mission. These pledges played a crucial role in the establishment of the first state in Madina and the eventual spread of Islam. They took place near the location of Aqabah, a valley outside of Makkah where a group of Muslims from Yathrib (Madina) met with the Prophet Muhammad (S) and pledged their allegiance to him. The pledges were vital in securing the Prophet’s protection and support, as well as in laying the foundation for the migration (Hijra) from Makkah to Madina. They swore: “We will not worship any but One Allah; we will not steal; neither will we commit adultery, we will obey the Prophet of Allah in all that is good.” This oath is known as the First Pledge of Aqabah.
