The Siege of the Fortress of Banu Qaynuqa took place shortly after the Battle of Badr, marking the first major breach of the Constitution of Madina. The conflict was ignited in the tribe’s marketplace when a Muslim woman was publicly humiliated by a goldsmith, leading to a retaliatory fight that left both a Muslim and a Jewish man dead. Because this act directly violated the civic peace treaty, the Prophet (S) led an army—with the white banner carried by Hamza (R) to blockade the tribe inside their fortified strongholds for 15 nights. Cut off from supplies and abandoned by their traditional allies, the Banu Qaynuqa surrendered unconditionally; however, following intense political intervention by the Madina hypocrite leader Abdullah ibn Ubayy, the Prophet (S) altered the judgment to exile, allowing the tribe to leave for Syria with their transportable belongings while leaving behind their massive cache of weapons and goldsmithing equipment as spoils of war.
