In this short snippet taken from our series ‘Striking Examples in the Quran’, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan reflects on a powerful moment from the life of the Prophet ﷺ after the Battle of Uhud. Despite a near-death experience and a devastating loss, Allah reminds the Prophet ﷺ in (3:159) that his gentleness was not only commendable—it was a mercy from Allah.
فَبِمَا رَحْمَةٍ مِّنَ اللَّهِ لِنتَ لَهُمْ ۖ
It is by Allah’s mercy that you were lenient with them… (3:159)
This ayah teaches us something timeless: leadership rooted in care, not anger. Like a farmer tending to delicate seeds, the Prophet ﷺ nurtured hearts even when they disappointed him. Ustadh explains how this divine model redefines our approach to failure, forgiveness and spiritual growth.
