Fir’awn did not speak Arabic; neither did Ibrahim (AS); the ants in the story of Sulayman (AS) were certainly not speaking Arabic to each other. So what happens when the Quran quotes them? Allah is translating, which means something is always lost, because words carry a whole culture with them. Say tomato sauce in one country and you get ketchup; say it in another and you get something else; tell somebody who has never seen a camel that one cannot fit through the eye of a needle and nothing happens. So the Quran carries more than the words: the room, the tone, the pauses, everything meant but never said out loud. Maybe the jinn talked for ten hours and Allah set it down in five ayat, losing nothing; Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan calls it divine paraphrasing, which is also why the same story shows up once as three days (3:41) and once as three nights (19:10).
