Could it be that Allah commands you to do something, and doing it lands you in trouble? You decide to be honest with your husband. You thought about it a million times, because if you say it he might get angry, he might leave, you might pay for it. Then you decide: I’m going to fear Allah, and I’m just going to say it. Speaking the truth can cost you everything, and Allah still asks you to speak it.

Look at Yunus. He carried a message to his people, they rejected him and insulted him day after day, until he walked away. Then came the whale, the anger faded, and what he felt was regret. Allah responded to him, rescued him and said He rescues the believers too (21:88). That whale was never just a story, it was a promise offered to everyone.

There are people in your life who want to keep you there. They remind you of your mistake, the time you got angry, the thing you said, because the moment they do, the shame comes back, the guilt comes back, the burden comes back and you shrink. But once Allah has freed you, those reminders stop working. He’s been freed from it, and so can you.
