Reflecting on the story of Prophet Moses (Musa) – peace be upon him – Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan shares some incredibly powerful ayat from Surah Ibrahim [14: 6-8] on the topic of gratitude.
After the people of Musa (AS) were freed from Pharaoh’s army, Allah reminds them of His favor upon them and specifically tells them to recall the difficulty and traumas they faced whilst under persecution and slavery; after all, they faced what we’d now consider as generational trauma.
However, the key here is Allah’s incredible promise: ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.’”
Allah is showing us that the focus should not be the past – our trails, traumas and tribulations – but rather how He removed them from our lives and brought us out on the other side. In this itself is a powerful healing. By doing this and being grateful, Allah promises to grant us more due to our gratitude.
