The concept of the dunya (the worldly life) was never meant to last because this world is deliberately designed as a temporary testing ground, not a final destination. The Qur’an frequently reminds believers that the material world is fleeting and a “glitter” of delusions, explicitly stating in Surah Al-Hadid (57:20) that the life of this world is nothing but the enjoyment of deception. According to prophetic tradition, a Muslim is encouraged to live in this world “like a traveller” or a stranger passing through. Therefore, the inherent disappointments, losses, and fatigue experienced in the dunya are not flaws in its design, but purposeful reminders from Allah. They are meant to prevent the human heart from becoming deeply attached to an unstable reality, redirecting a believer’s focus toward building eternal spiritual wealth for the Akhirah (the Hereafter), which is the soul’s true and permanent home.
