In this video, Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi discusses the names Al-Fattah and Khair Al-Fatiheen

Summary:
• Fattah occurs only once in the Qur’an. (Surah Sabah) “He will open up to us with truth..”
• In another verse, “He is the best of those who do Fattah” (ie, Khair Al-Fatiheen)
• Fataha typically means “to open.” Miftah = keys.

Some Hadith:
• “Allah has given me the miftah of speech (balagah)”
• “Allah placed the mafateeh (keys) to treasures of heavens and earth and offered them to me and I turned them down”

• Fatah means:
a) Opening
b) A victory (an opening is given). Quran: (Surah Al-Fatah) “We have given you the clear victory..”
c) Judgment (when decree comes, there is an opening). Hence, day of Judgment is called Yawm Al-Fatah

Allah’s decree is of 2 types:
a) Religious (Shar’i) – Allah decrees and wills of being worshiped alone (but people may or may not follow)
b) Natural (Qawmi) – Effective in his creation (Someone being a Muslim, living until age 70, etc)

So Al-Fattah:
1) The one who opens up the doors of decree & Rahma (mercy) upon us, and no one can stop that. Whatever Allah shuts off, no one can open it. Allah opens door of Mercy, Rizq, Peace, Family, Society. Quran: “Allah has the keys of all that is hidden, He chooses to give and He chooses to keep.” So Al-Fattah determines what you will get, how you will get and when you will get it. So we should use this name at times of difficulty, as Al-Fattah will open up such doors from places we never expected.

Sometimes doors are opened as a test and punishment. Allah says:
“When they turned away form worship of Allah, we opened up the doors of everything (ie, money, wealth, power, status, becoming arrogant) then we took them all of a sudden”

2) Allah is the Judge
3) The one we call at times of distress. “We have opened up the manifest victory..”
4) Opens up difficulties
A Sahabi made du’a: “Oh Allah open up for me your doors of mercy” to which Allah revealed verses in the Qur’an.

Prophet Nuh “Open up victory between me and them..” so Allah opened up the doors of heavens and water came gushing in the great flood. Prophet Shuaib also made similar du’a.

We may make du’a as found in Hadith: “Oh Allah, nothing is easy except what you make easy and you can make any difficulty easy, Oh Allah, make my difficulty easy”
