In this final video of this series, Shaykh Yasir Qadhi discusses the Greatest Name of Allah (Ism-Allah Al-Adham).

There are 4 authentic hadith which mention the greatest name(s) of Allah
• Hadith 1: (Tirmidhi) The Prophet saw somebody make dua and said “You have asked Allah with his Grand Name, this is the name if asked using it Allah will grant and dua is answered.”
• Hadith 2: A person made dua and the Prophet said “This man has invoked Allah’s Grand Name, when it is used Allah responds and dua made Allah gives”
• Hadith 3: The Prophet said: “The grand name which when used is granted is found in 3 surahs, Baqarah, Ale Imran and Taha” (Pious generation narrator says this is Hayyul Qayyum, common across surahs)
• Hadith 4 (Abu Dawud): The Prophet said the grand names were Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem and Hayyul Qayyum.
• 11 names are used in these hadith, but 4-5 are given emphasis (ie, Dhul Jalal Al-Ikram, Ar-Rabb, Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem, Allah itself, AlHayy and Al-Hayy Al-Qayyu,
• Some scholars have said that using the appropriate names of Allah in context is the greatest name for that context.
• Strongest position are Allah and Hayyul Qayyum.
• One may say all of the names at once to ensure nothing is missed by saying::” Al-Ahad, As-Samad, Al-Mannan, Al-Bari, Dhul Jalal Wal Ikram, Al-Hayy Al-Qayyum

• One group of scholars said that all of the names of Allah are the Greatest Names.

Note, using these names are not a guarantee or magic formula. Ism-Allah Al-adham will only be effective if it comes from the heart and depths of eman, when we understand who Al-Hayy, Ar-Rabb, Ar-Rahman Ar-Raheem is, etc.

This body of study (names of Allah) is an ocean which has just been briefly dipped into. When we read the quran we should try to understand what names are being used and incorporate these names into our lives.
