In Islamic eschatology, the period preceding the emergence of the Dajjal (false messiah) is characterized by severe famine and drought. Specifically, it is said that there will be three years of hardship, with the sky withholding rain and the earth withholding its produce. In the first year, one-third of the rain and produce will be withheld, in the second year, two-thirds, and in the third year, no rain will fall, and nothing will grow on the earth. This lack of rain and famine are significant events leading up to the Dajjal’s appearance.
