In this short snippet from our Deeper Look Series: Surah Al-Mursalat, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan reflects on Allah’s words in Surah Al-Insan {هَلْ أَتَىٰ عَلَى ٱلْإِنسَـٰنِ حِينٌۭ مِّنَ ٱلدَّهْرِ لَمْ يَكُن شَيْـًۭٔا مَّذْكُورًا} (76:1) and Surah Al-Mursalat {أَلَمْ نَخْلُقكُّم مِّن مَّآءٍۢ مَّهِينٍۢ} (77:20).

We are reminded that every human being began as nothing, not even known to their own mother at first. Inside the womb, powerless and unseen, we had no eyes, no mouth, no limbs, no ability to claim anything. Every part of our being, our sight, our hearing, our minds, was crafted for us without us deserving or earning it.

Yet how quickly we forget our origin and begin to believe our status, wealth or power is something we inherently deserve. The Quran calls us back to humility and gratitude, stripping away false pride by reminding us of the weakness we all began with.
