Hatred does not always feel like hatred. Sometimes it feels like pain, resentment, humiliation, or the memory of what someone did to you. But when that feeling grows too powerful, it can start controlling you.
This reminder breaks down the warning behind Allah’s command not to let hatred push us into injustice. The danger is not always outside of us. Sometimes the force that makes us unfair is something we are carrying inside: spite, resentment, anger and the need to feel avenged.
Justice begins when we stop letting those feelings take control.
