From tides that regulate ecosystems, to navigation systems that guide sailors across oceans, to calendars that govern acts of worship, human life is inseparably tied to the movements of these celestial bodies. The sun becomes a spiritual clock. The moon becomes a spiritual calendar. Prayer, fasting and pilgrimage all depend on looking up.
But the ayah goes further.
Just as the sun and moon follow exact calculation, revelation itself came at an exact moment, to an exact person, in an exact place in history. Nothing was early. Nothing was late. Every word descended with precision.
And there is another layer, a more sobering one. The same word that describes calculation also carries the meaning of audit and even destruction. The sun and moon are not only measured; they are also moving toward a final, precisely decreed end. Their cycles are not endless. They are counting down.
The universe itself has been tolerating human disobedience under divine command. A day will come when that restraint is lifted.
