As we saw last time so much from the 10 days of Dhul Hijjah and the Hajj are connected to Ibrahim (as) and his family. However one incident with his son Ismail has become the most symbolic act we do to recognise the great sacrifice that Ibrahim (as) was willing to make to please Allah.
Ismail (as) and the sacrifice is the reason why we sacrifice on Eid ul-Adha which is where its name comes from.
أنس بن مالك -رضي الله عنه- قال: (ضَحَّى النبيُّ صَلَّى اللهُ عليه وسلَّمَ بكَبْشينِ أمْلَحَيْنِ أقْرَنَيْنِ، ذَبَحَهُما بيَدِهِ، وسَمَّى وكَبَّرَ، ووَضَعَ رِجْلَهُ علَى صِفَاحِهِمَا)
It was narrated that Anas said: “The Prophet sacrificed two horned, Amlah rams, slaughtering them with his own hand, pronouncing the name of Allah, and saying: ‘Allahu Akbar, and placing his foot on their sides.”
For those offering sacrifice let them not shave their hair or trim their nails.
عن أم سلَمةَ أن النَّبي صلى الله عليه وسلم قَاَل: «من كان له ذبح يذبِه فاذا أهَّل هلاُل ذي الحجة، فلا يَأخذن من شعره، ولا من أظفاره شيـي حتَّى يُضحي
It was narrated from Umm Salamah (may Allaah be pleased with her) that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “When you see the new moon of Dhu’l-Hijjah, and one of you wants to offer a sacrifice, let him refrain from (removing anything) from his hair or nails.” Narrated by Muslim, 1977. According to another version: “Let him not remove anything of his hair or skin.”
Ask yourself what are you willing to sacrifice for Allah will you give up some of your sins?
