In this short snippet from a Deeper Look: Surah Al-Ahzab, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan explains the unraveling of the Confederate siege described in Surah Al-Ahzab (33:25). Quraysh had positioned themselves as the dominant military force of Arabia—like a superpower. They rallied smaller tribes to join the siege of Medina with promises of easy victory and rich spoils. But as the siege dragged on, the cost of war mounted.

Feeding soldiers, caring for the sick and maintaining massive camps in the desert became unsustainable. The expected victory never came. Instead, morale collapsed. Tribes began slipping away, one by one, realizing this wasn’t a good return on investment—it was a financial and strategic disaster.

In the end, even the mighty Quraysh pulled back. But their retreat cost them more than money. It cost them credibility.
