In this Q&A session after the lecture on “Quran on Psychological Trauma” in Genk, Belgium, a woman gathers the courage to ask something many quietly wonder: as a woman, is she meant to understand the trauma of the prophets differently, and can a woman truly relate to stories about men?
Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan answers by rejecting the whole premise. He argues that reading the stories written in the Quran’s through the lens of gender before we allow ourselves to empathize with them is a modern construct, not a Quranic one. You do not have to be a woman to fear humiliation the way Maryam did, and you do not have to be a man to recognize the arrogance of Firawn or the wounded pride of the minister’s wife. These are lessons for all believers, not for one gender.
