Jihaad in the Quran – Dr Zakir Naik

TJIP-6

This word Jihad occurs in the Glorious Qur’an several times, on several occasions, it’s even used by our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihe wa sallam), Muhammad (may peace be upon him) in several of the authentic hadith.

If you read the Qur’an, it says in the Quran in

Surah Hajj, Chapter No. 22, Verse no. 78, it says,
“That strive in the way of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) as you are ought to strive with sincerity and discipline”

Strive in the way of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) as you ought to strive.
Further it’s mentioned in the Glorious Qur’an in

Surah Taubah, Chapter No. 9 Verse No. 20, that
“As far those believers who suffer exile and who strive with might and main in the way of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) with their body, and wealth and possession, these are the people who shall attain the highest rank in the hereafter, they shall attain the salvation.”

That means it says that all those people, the believers who suffer exile, and if they struggle, if they do Jihad, if they strive, in the way of Almighty God doing good things with all their possession, with the body, with the wealth, with the time, these are the people who shall achieve the highest rank in the hereafter and they shall go to heaven.

It’s mentioned in the Hadith of our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) in

Sahih Bukhari, Volume No. 4, Hadith No. 46, our beloved Prophet Muhammad (Sallallahu alaihe wa sallam) said that,

“A Mujahid”, a person who strives in Allah’s way, and Allah alone knows who really strives in his way with the true intentions is like a person who continuously fasts and prays and if a person who is a Mujahid, who strives in Allah’s way if he is killed, he shall go to paradise and if he returns back, he shall come back with a great reward as well as booty of the war.”

The word Jihad is referred to in the Qur’an in several places. Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) says in the Qur’an in

Surah Ankabut, Chapter No. 29, Verse no. 6,
It says that,

“Strive in the way of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) as you ought to strive but Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) is free of all wants.”
It says that if you strive in the way of Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) you are doing for your own selves, for Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala), the Creator is free of all wants. It indicates that if you are struggling in the way of Almighty God, it is for your own benefit, it is not for the benefit of Almighty God, because Almighty God is not dependent on any of his creations, is independent, He does not require anyone’s help, if you are struggling in his way it is for your own benefit.
And Allah (Subhanahu wa Ta’ala) says in
Surah Taubah, Chapter No. 9, Verse No. 24,
“In Kaana Aabaa-o Kum” …. Say whether it be for your fathers.
“Wa Abna-o Kum”.… or your sons ….
“Wa Ikhwan-o Kum”.… or your brothers ….
“Wa Azwajukum” .… or your spouses, your wives, your husbands .…
“Wa Ashiratukum”…. or your relatives ….
“Waamwalun iqtaraftumooha watijaratun takhshawna kasadaha wamasakinu tardawnaha”.… the wealth ye have amassed, the business in which you deal, the houses in which you live.

Allah is saying, what are your considerations? Are they your fathers? your sons? your brothers? your spouses? your relatives? the wealth the you have amassed? the business in which you deal? the houses in which you live? what are you considerations? and Allah continues,
“Ahabba ilaykum mina Allahi warasoolihi wajihadin fee sabeelihi” …
