In this short snippet from our latest Story Night release, recorded in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan unpacks one of the most misunderstood stories in the Quran – that of Prophet Adam (AS). Kicking tings off in this episode, Ustadh begins by unpacking the 30th ayah of Surah Al-Baqarah.

Were humans sent to Earth as a punishment? Did Adam (AS) get banished from heaven for making a mistake? Was eating from the tree the reason why man was forever destined to be born in sin? That narrative may come from the Biblical tradition, but the Quran says something else entirely.

Before the mistake… before the tree… before anything else, Allah told the angels:

“إني جاعل في الأرض خليفة” It wasn’t a punishment. It was the plan from the beginning.

This conversation explores what it means to be human, created with both body and soul, placed on Earth with the freedom to choose and the capacity to solve.

You’ll also hear how this one ayah redefines failure, work, purpose, and why youth need to stop saying “I don’t know what to do.”

Allah already told you: Figure it out
