In this episode of Lives of the Khulafaa, Shaykh Dr Yasir Qadhi covers the life of the great warrior and commander, Khalid Ibn Al Waleed[R]. He converted to Islam eight years after the Hijrah, twenty one years after the beginning of Islam itself. Khalid is the son of Al-Waleed Ibn Mughirah, one of the most famous people in Makkah, at the time of early Islam. He is famous for multiple reasons, of them is that he was the Chieftain of one of the most prestigious tribes of the Quraysh, The Banu Makhzum. He was also the richest philanthropist of Makkah, as well as the official poet the of Makkah. Not only was he rich, but also famous and beloved!

Khalid Ibn Al Waleed was known to have light skin, very similar looking to Umar Ibn-Al-Khataab, broad shoulders, very big beard & muscular,so much so that they say that Khalid and Umar were sometimes confused for one another at a distance. Now The Banu Makhzum, which is his tribe, were known for being the most well trained in the arts of war. They prided themselves on their elite training and they typically had the best weapons, relating back to the money they had. So Khalid grew up being trained by the same people that trained his tribe. He learnt how to ride horses, using bows and arrows and so on.
