Out of more than a hundred thousand Sahabas, Zayd Ibn Haritha(R) is the only one that had the honor to be mentioned in the Holy Qur’an. Even the ten Sahabas who were promised Paradise(A’shara Mubashara), none of them are referenced directly in the Qur’an. Zayd Ibn Haritha is a Sahaba who has been considered to be the son of the Prophet(S) for over a decade and a half of his life. Some of the younger Sahabas such as Abdullah Ibn Umar famously said: “I never knew Zaid except as Zayd Ibn Muhammad”. He was not aware until Allah revealed Surah Al-Ahzab, then he figured that it was indeed Zayd Ibn Haritha.
Zayd Ibn Haritha was younger than the Prophet(S) by approximately 10-15 years. He is an Arab, from a sub-tribe called ‘Banu Kalb’. Generally, the Arabs hesitated to enslave other tribes, but there were exceptions. Zayd Ibn Haritha became one of those exceptions.
