Allah gave them many chances to choose iman but they went in the vicinity of the kufar. Hypocrisy is the most dangerous even then the kufar because it is the kufar mixed Iman and is more harmful.
Hypocrites will never be forgiven by Allah.They will straight go to Jhanam which is the most threatening curse. They will be put on the lowest level of Jhanam. There are many verses in the Quran about the hypocrites because they are the most threatening enemy.
