Ghaleedh, Surah Ali ‘Imran, Ayah 159

It’s amazing that when Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) first began spreading the message of Allah, he was met with intense opposition from the whole of Arabia. Yet within only 23 years they all entered into the fold of Islam. How did that happen? It wasn’t through battles because most of those who joined him did so during the peace treaty. In this ayah, Allah says that if the Prophet had a ghaleedh heart, people would have stayed away from him. Ghaleedh does not only mean harsh, but also means “treating others as enemies”. Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) treated even his worst enemies with kindness and this was how Islam spread.
