Maw’idhah, An-Nahl, Ayah 125

The usual translation of the phrase maw’idhah hasana is good advice, but the word maw’idhah means a lot more. It is advice given by an affectionate and caring person. Often the receivers of advice feel humiliated because those advising them are self-righteous. Here Allah tells us that when we invite others to Islam we must not threaten them but do so at the right time and place and be affectionate, caring and make them feel that you only have their best interest in mind.
