In his description of those who deny the revelation, Allah says that they do not “encourage the feeding of the poor”. However, He does not use the verb “to feed” here, rather He uses the noun “food” (ta’am), which adds an important nuance. Allah is saying that “giving the poor their food” is not an act of charity, it is giving them what they are due, what is rightfully theirs according to His laws.
