This clip is from an upcoming lecture that took place in Genk, Belgium, releasing on Thursday 3rd September, where Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan discusses Quran and human psychology, focusing primarily on trauma.

Ustadh Nouman raises a question most of us are afraid to ask: can obeying Allah actually get you traumatized? The answer might be surprising. Let’s take, for example, speaking the truth even when it’s easier to lie.

When Allah commands you to be honest and you finally speak the truth, it can cost you everything.

Ustadh walks through the story of Yunus (AS) to expose a pattern most of us live but rarely name: the people causing our deepest pain are often those who are closest to us.

He demonstrates how speaking the truth can cause our loved ones to turn against us, and how sometimes those we trust the most end up using our own pain to hurt us further. They remind us of the what was said and done in the past to purposefully light a fire inside of us, and wait for us to react, causing us to burn further. They remind us of our mistakes, which ends up overshadowing any good we’ve done.

The turning point is what Allah did next. He didn’t only rescue Yunus from that burden, He promised to rescue every believer from it too. There are people who want to keep you trapped in that guilt and shame, but once Allah frees you, their games stop working.

The full lecture on “The Quran on Psychological Trauma” will be released on Thursday 3rd September. Bayyinah TV members can enjoy an early bird release on Wednesday 2nd September. Subscribe and stay tuned!
