This isn’t just literally about clothes. The “dirt” that we’re commanded to purify is also that which clings to us emotionally, spiritually, and socially as we experience the world and deal with the people in our lives. The stains of insult, anger, disappointment and ego gather like dirt from the road, and this ayah is a call to keep cleansing, again and again.
Since dawah requires a clean heart and presence, we can’t carry the weight of yesterday into every new encounter, and we can’t afford to wear the wrong emotional “outfit” when addressing the people.
