The standard doctrine of Sunni Islam is that we respect all the Companions of the Prophet (ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam) & hold them with the highest honour and that Abu Bakr (raḍyAllāhu ‘anhu) was the first rightly guided Khalifah of the Muslims.
The famous Scholar Imam Fakhr ad-Din ar-Razi (raḥimahullāh) from Herat (modern day Afghanistan) commented that the final verse in Surat al-Fātiĥah “The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor” is a proof of the legitimate Khilafah of the best of this Ummah – Abu Bakr as-Siddik (raḍyAllāhu ‘anhu)!
