Halloween originated over 2,000 years ago as Samhain, an ancient Celtic festival marking the new year where people wore costumes and lit bonfires to ward off wandering spirits before it was later co-opted by Christian traditions as All Hallows’ Eve. In Islam, celebrating Halloween is forbidden (haram) because its historical roots are tied to paganism and polytheism (shirk), which contradicts the core Islamic belief in the oneness of Allah (Tawhid). Furthermore, Islamic jurisprudence strictly prohibits the imitation of religious or superstitious rituals belonging to other faiths, viewing the playful embrace of witches, devils, and black magic as a glorification of evil that compromises a Muslim’s religious identity.
