In this episode, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan unpacks one of the most emotionally complex moments from the life of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. When ‘Abd Allah ibn Ubayy, the known hypocrite who spread slander and harmed the Prophet’s household—passed away, the Prophet ﷺ still led his janazah prayer. Only after this act of mercy did Allah reveal a powerful command:
وَلَا تُصَلِّ عَلَىٰ أَحَدٍ مِّنْهُم مَّاتَ أَبَدًا
“Do not pray over any of them when they die” (9:84).
Why was this ayah sent after the janazah? What does it teach us about prophetic mercy, community judgment and Allah’s timing?
