When lust and temptations take over, it is viewed in Islam as a moment where the nafs (lower self or ego) has overpowered a person’s spiritual willpower and, in some cases, the individual has taken their desires as their “god”. The Prophet Muhammad (S) frequently sought refuge in Allah from the mischief of his own nafs, emphasizing that controlling these urges is a constant struggle. When Temptation Takes Over (Consequences). Spiritual Weakness: Indulging in lustful desires weakens one’s Iman (faith) and makes it harder to reconnect with Allah. Regret and Sorrow: Temporary pleasure is often followed by profound regret and a feeling of distance from Allah. Hardening of the Heart: If sinful desires are continued without repentance, they can lead to a hardened heart, making it resistant to guidance.
