In this Friday Khutbah, Ustadh Nouman Ali Khan reflects on the ayah from Surah Al-Anbiya {قَالُوا وَجَدْنَا آبَاءَنَا لَهَا عَابِدِينَ} (21:52), where the people tell Prophet Ibrahim (AS) they are devoted to idols because they saw their fathers doing the same. Ibrahim’s challenge to them raises a question for our own time.

In ancient societies, fathers shaped a child’s identity, sense of belonging and life goals, often through religious centers. Today, those roles are increasingly filled by devices and platforms that demand constant attention. Just as temples gathered people around idols, our screens gather us around influencers and feeds, shaping what we value, how we see truth and even what we desire.

What happens when the veneration, loyalty and emotional connection once reserved for Allah now flow toward technology? And what does the Quran teach us about seeing reality for what it truly is?
