These days many people engage even publicly in what is known as As-Sihr (magic). According to the scholars, it is of two types. The first kind is the one of illusionists. This kind of Sihr involves magic tricks that are done as a form of entertainment. The other kind is the greater kind that involves diabolical things like the use of charms or association with jinns. This form of magic is often used to facilitate things like separation between spouses, causing a man to love a particular woman, so he marries her or vice-versa, to affect businesses and trade, whether small or major corporations. Allah says, ….and the magician will never be successful, to whatever amount (of skill) he may attain.” (Ta-ha verse 69).
