In Islam, a “good death” (Husn al-Khatimah) is defined as passing away in a state of submission to Allah, often marked by specific, auspicious signs. Key indicators include uttering the Shahadah (testimony of faith) as the final words, sweating on the forehead, or dying on a Friday (night or day). Key Signs of a Good Death (Husn al-Khatimah). Final Words: Saying the Shahadah (Testimony of Faith) upon passing. Physical Indicators: A damp, sweaty forehead. Timing: Passing away on the day or night of Jumu’ah (Friday). Shahadah): Dying while in a state of struggle for the sake of Allah, including: Protecting one’s faith, life, or property. Dying from plague, abdominal illnesses, drowning. A woman dying during childbirth or pregnancy. Righteous Actions: Dying while performing a good deed, such as fasting, praying, or giving charity. Spiritual Context. While these signs are considered hopeful indicators of a good ending and Divine mercy, Islamic belief maintains that only Allah knows for certain the ultimate fate of a soul. A good death is usually preceded by a life of faith, repentance, and obedience to Allah’s commandments.
