Allah did not guarantee that speaking gently would change Firaoun. He said that perhaps Firaoun would remember.
This teaches us that good character is not dependent on the response of another person. You remain respectful because Allah commanded you to, not because the other person deserves it or will respond well.
When kindness is met with disrespect, the real test is whether you can remain composed. The loudest person in the room may appear powerful, but their anger can reveal that they are losing control.
