Safh, Surah An-Nur, Ayah 22

During the incident of ifk, one of the people who spread rumors about Aisha, the wife of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), was a man who was supported by her father Abu Bakr. Extremely upset, Abu Bakr stopped supporting him, so Allah revealed ayat addressing Abu Bakr, saying that people of virtue who are wronged should forgive and forget – yasfahu. This word is derived from the root word safh, from which the word safha (page) also stems. Allah is making an analogy to the idea of turing a new page. In order to earn Allah’s forgiveness, we too must live a life of forgiveness, even towards those who wrong us.
