The IMS Debating Forum is designed to develop the ability to think critically ????, construct logical arguments ????, communicate effectively ????️, and engage with opposing viewpoints ????.
In this introduction, we explain the purpose of the Debating Forum and the structure of each debate.
???? Debate Structure
???? Round 1 – Opening Arguments
Speakers from both the For and Against sides present their arguments on the given motion. Each speaker gets 10 minutes of uninterrupted speaking time.
⚔️ Round 2 – Moderated Debate & Counterarguments
The moderator asks questions to both sides and opens the floor for speakers to challenge, respond to, and counter the arguments presented by the opposing side.
???? Round 3 – Closing Remarks
One speaker from each side delivers their closing remarks within 3 minutes, summarising their position and strongest arguments.
❓ Q&A Session
The debate concludes with a Q&A session, allowing participants to engage further with the arguments and ideas discussed.
